The Royal College of Psychiatrists position on e-cigarettes

The Royal College of Psychiatrists have issued a position statement on December 2018 in relation to e-cigarette use amongst mental health patients. Their position is:

“We support the recommendation of the Parliamentary Science and Technology Committee (2018) that all mental health provider organisations should ensure they have policies in place that facilitate the use of ECs safely and effectively”

There is growing evidence from multiple health organisations on the positive impact e-cigarettes have on smoking cessation especially amongst people with mental health conditions. We support the position that the Royal College of Psychiatrists take and actively are engaging with mental health providers to facilitate the use of safe e-cigarettes at their services.
