Support to Quit Smoking in Pregnancy Position Statement

The RCM’s position is to support pregnant woman to quit smoking. Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable to health risks posed from tobacco smoke. With regards to the use of e-cigarettes during pregnancy the RCM say this,

 

“E-cigarettes contain some toxins, but at far lower levels than found in tobacco smoke. If a pregnant woman who has been smoking chooses to use an e-cigarette (vaping) and it helps her to quit smoking and stay smoke free, she should be supported to do so.”

 

Evidence continues to grow on the use of e-cigarettes as a smoking cessation device. The common message is, if you smoke, switching to e-cigarettes is far better for your health than continued tobacco use.  To view the full position statement, click on the button below.
